Crossmolina were unlucky to loose this County U16 League tie at Tiernans Park on Tuesday last. It was tit for tat throughout with the score level on a couple of occasions with Edward Gough grabbing 1 – 3 of his sides total in the opening half James Williams and Adam Langan two points each Stephen Niland bagged 1 – 3 for Davitts and Takechi Kilkenny Niall Treacy points each to leave the home side leading by two points 1 – 7 to 1 – 5 at the break. Davitts were ahead in side two minuets with a goal from Jack Davane Stephen Niland added a point James Williams Adam Langam pointed to tie the score after forty minuets that was as good as it got for the Deel-Siders Two points from Stephen Niland and a goal from Jack Davane gave the visitors a cushion of five points. Three points from Edward Gough were quickly wiped out with another goal from Stephen Niland. Robert Murphy with two further points and one from Conor Caden which flew over the crossbar to leave Davitts winning by two points 4 – 8 to 1 – 15. Crossmolina bowed out of Feile at the semi-final stage against a very strong Davitts Team in Park on Saturday week. The South Mayo side lead by 2 -5 to 0 – 5 With Jack Devane their scorer – in – chief when assisted by the breeze Crossmolina kept in touch with points from Niall Coggins James Williams Diarmuid Walsh and Diarmuid Coggins but a goal before the break gave the Davitts side a comfortable 2 – 6 to 0 – 5 lead Niall Coggins and Eoin Murphy pulled points back but Davitts tacked on two points to leave them winner by 2 – 8 to 0 – 7 Davitts went on to defeat Kilmovee in the Final comfortably and will now represent mayo in the National Finals. Crossmolina Day Centre
Thank you to all that supported the opening Day of the Crossmolina Day Centre on Tuesday 25th April in Crossmolina Social services. Over 70 people attended and enjoyed music provided by John Cosgrove, Mick Shannon, Padraig Hanahoe, Packie Hefferon, and Sean Gallagher. Singers Fred Finley, Fr Francis Judge, Michael Gallagher, Breege McAndrew, Bridgie Gilroy, recitation/poetry Breda Mulkearns.
Michael Loftus, MCC, offered the Day Centre congratulations and best wishes for the future. The Day Centre committee provided tea, coffee & light refreshments, funded by Crossmolina Community Development and Crossmolina Social Services. Transport was provided by the Crossmolina Community Bus. We liked to thank Sr Finola Keavney, Cathal and Carmel Prior for the beautiful floral arrangements. M.C. for the day was Claudette McLoughlin, Crossmolina Community Development Administrator.
Also in attendance were Public Health Nurses Paula Duggan, Helen Ruttledge, Patricia Gallagher and Dr Eleanor Fitzgerald.
We wish to thank the volunteers who offered their services and contributed to making a very successful and memorable occasion.
The day centre will be held monthly and will comprise of bingo, card playing, music & singing sessions, dance, arts & crafts, and cookery demonstrations.
