Free ‘Getting Citizens Online’ course

Irish Rural Link are running a free computer course called ‘Getting Citizens Online’ in the Crossmolina area. It is designed for beginners to help you feel comfortable using a computer.  It is an introduction to the Internet, shopping online, email, basic Word processing, how to book a flight, Skype and other useful government online services. The course runs for 2 hours a week over five weeks in the Crossmolina Enterprise centre. To book a place please contact 0860897789.

 

The Annual Community Bus Church gate collection

The Annual Church gate collection to assist with the running of the Crossmolina Community Bus will be taken place on Saturday evening / Sunday morning 6th and 7th January after Masses in Crossmolina, Eskeragh,Kilmurry,Kenagh and Moygownagh.

RTE Nationwide filming the beauty of Nephin

The RTE Nationwide film crew & presenter Maria Mullarkey (originally from Bangor Erris) were recently filming the great beauty of Nephin. Our local tour guide Derek Davidson was chosen as their mountain guide for their filming event. The Nationwide programme will be aired on Monday January 8th at 7pm on RTE One.

Resilient Communities Fund is Seeking Application

Resilient Communities is a €400,000 awards fund, created by Social Innovation Fund Ireland in partnership with the Tomar Trust and the Department of Rural and Community Development. The Department of Rural and Community Development provides match funding for all philanthropic funds raised by Social Innovation Fund Ireland, via the Dormant Accounts Fund.  

 

The Fund will provide critical supports to projects focused on making communities across Ireland safer, healthier, and more vibrant places to live.

The chosen awardees will receive a total grant award of between €40,000 and €100,000. The award will consist of a 75% cash grant and 25% in accelerator supports. Bespoke accelerator supports may include mentoring, strategic growth planning and access to SIFI’s networks.

 

Social Innovation Fund Ireland are looking for innovative projects that can demonstrate how they are strengthening community resilience whilst delivering economic, social and environmental impact for their localities.

 

Projects might focus on:

 

•Economy – providing greater self-sufficiency, sustainability, and stability, while also providing increased opportunities for more people thereby tackling urban migration

•Environment – increasing sustainability and reducing resource usage

•Social – generating a positive sense of belonging, particularly for marginalised and vulnerable groups.

The Late Arthur John Wills.

The death occurred peacefully at his residence on Tuesday 19th December of Arthur. John Wills Ballyholan Downhill Rd Ballina, formerly of Moylaw Crossmolina and Upper Garden St Ballina. His remains reposed at McGowan’s funeral Home on Thursday evening with removal to St Michaels Church Ballina funeral service on Friday with burial afterwards in the adjoining graveyard. Arthur is survived by his wife Eleanor, sons David and Stanley, daughters Ruth and Michele, sister Ethel, Sons-in-law Seamus and Damon, grandchildren, nephews, nieces and extended family and friends. At Rest.

There was no winner of the Crossmolina Deel-Rovers GAA Club Lotto Jackpot on Saturday night 23rd December. Died in Leeds

The death occurred peacefully recently in Leeds of Bridget Ruane late of Comminch Castlehill. Funeral mass in The Church of Our Lady Kilmurray on Sunday 7th January at 11am.With burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. Bridget was predeceased by her brothers Joe, Jack and Mick is survived by her sisters Biney Harrison Leeds, Sr Mary. Agnes Claremorris, brother Paddy Leeds, sisters – in – law, nieces, nephews, relations, friends and neighbours. May she rest in peace

Dermot County Secretary.

At the executive meeting of Crossmolina Deel-Rovers club on Tuesday night Congratulation was extended to Dermot Butler who was Elected Secretary of the Mayo GAA County Board succeeding Vincent Neary who had completed his five year term and Liam Moffatt on appointment as Mayo coaching officer both were very active members of our club. Also to Michael who was awarded the Mayo Referee of the Year award recently

The Annual Crossmolina Deel-Rovers awards and Social night will be held on Friday 29th December in Maughan’s Bar Presentations at 9pm followed by live music

 

GAA National Draw

The Annual GAA Club draw organised by GAA Head Quarters with the First Prize a New Renault Dynamique and nineteen other very attractive prizes. All money’s raised from this draw goes directly to the Club. Tickets are €10 and can be had from any club member  

 

St Stephen Day. 

The annual Crossmolina Deel-Rovers get together and football Match in St Tiernans Park on St Stephen Day at 1 – 30. All former and present members come along for a meet and greet. All are welcome

The death occurred peacefully at the District Hospital Ballina Sunflower Unit on Monday 11th December of Paddy. Joe. Gallagher Gortnahurra Crossmolina. His remains reposed at Hiney's Funeral Home Crossmolina on Tuesday evening with removal to St Tiernans Church. Burial on Wednesday in Crossmolina Cemetery after requiem mass. Paddy. Joe was predeceased by his sister Mary, Ann and Breege. Is survived by his brothers Dermot, John Ballinasloe, sister Gretta, sister – in – law Peggy, nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and neighbours. May he rest in peace.
