Computer Training for farming families

COMPUTER TRAINING FOR FARMING FAMILIES

Computer Courses will be held in the Enterprise Centre in Crossmolina commencing Wednesday 13th September from 11am to 1pm. The course will run for 4 weeks. This course is aimed at complete beginners to give them the confidence, motivation and skills to take their first steps online and provide training in basic internet skills, browsing the Dept of Agriculture Website and communication tools. The cost is €5 per person per day. To book a place on this course please call 096 30935. 

 

Get Connected to the Internet

Get Connected to the Internet (classes for older learners)

Have you got very basic skills you want to refresh? Crossmolina Community Council are running classes for older learners (aged 55+) who have little or no experience with using the Internet and who are apprehensive of technology. Classes commence in the Enterprise Centre, Crossmolina on Wednesday 13th September from 2pm to 4pm. There will be a charge of €5 per week for a 5 week course. Defibrillator Training

There are now 2 defibrillators installed in Crossmolina town, one beside the ATM and the other on the wall at Jarlath Tolan Butchers.

Mayo County Council in conjunction with Mayo Civil Defence will carry out training in defibrillator use in the near future.  There is a small charge of €20 per person to cover the cost of training. If you are interested in booking a place please call the Enterprise Centre Office on 096 30934 or 30935. Training will take place in Crossmolina Town Hall on a date yet to be decided.

Lotto Results.

There was no winner of the Crossmolina Deel-Rovers GAA Club Lotto Jackpot on Saturday night 19th August. The numbers were 8 – 23 – 25 – 26 two punters matched three numbers Brian Gallagher Abbeytown Crossmolina, and Tom and Teresa McNulty St Patricks Ave, Crossmolina, each win €75. The draw took place in Hiney’s. This week’s jackpot is €3,450. Many thanks for all your support

 

World Meeting of Families

The Diocesan launch for World meeting of Families will take place on Sunday 3rd. September at 1.30pm in the Newman Institute, Ballina. All families are invited to attend.

Kilmurray Parents Meeting.

Kilmurray Parent and Toddler Group meet in Kilmurray Community Centre every Tuesday morning from 11am to 1pm. All are welcome €4 per family

 

Died in Galway. 

The death occurred peacefully Saturday 19th August of Eileen Hughes nee Gilvarry Late of Newcastle, Galway and formerly of Forster Court, Galway and Main Street, Crossmolina. Her remains reposed at the home of her daughter Pam at 51 Upper Newcastle, Galway, on Monday the 21st of August. Private removal on Tuesday morning to St. Joseph's Church, Presentation Road for Requiem Mass Removal afterwards to St. Tiernan's Church, Crossmolina for prayers with burial afterwards in Crossmolina Cemetery. Eileen was predeceased by her husband Tommy, son Thomas. Will be sadly missed by her loving daughters Mary (Hughes, Dublin), Geri (Silke, Barna), Pam (Dolan, Newcastle), Aileen (Hughes, Dublin), sister Lily Cosgrove, brother James Gilvarry, sons-in-law Brian, Leonard, Gerry and Tom, sisters-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives,  friends and neighbours. May she rest in peace. 

 

U16 Championship.

Crossmolina team advanced to the County U16 D Championship final with a 2 – 9 to 0 – 7 win over hosts Bonniconlon on Tuesday last. Points from Daniel Howley and Edward Gough were cancelled out by points from Jack Lawrence a goal from Conor Caden after nine minuets gave Crossmolina an advantage they added too with further points from Adam Langan two and one each from Edward Gough and Daniel Howley with Jack Lawrence replying with a brace for Bonniconlon to leave half time score 1 – 6 to 0 – 4 in favour of the visitors. Robert Murphy and Edward Gough quickly adding points Christan Judge pulled one back for the home side before a Bonniconlon defender picked the ball off the ground in the square from the resulting penalty Edward Gough scored to give his side a commanding lead. Enda Conlon grabbed two points for the host and Robert Murphy closed the scoring with a point to leave the final score 2 – 9 to 0 - 7

Lady’s Football

McHale/ Rovers advanced to County U16 league final with a comfortable win over Kilmaine. His game was an hour late starting due to the fact that their was no Referee after consonance Liam Higgins was agreed too. McHale/Rovers were quickly into their stride with goals from Lisa Lavelle Meave Walsh and Eilish Keane in the opening 20 minuets and a string of points from Lisa Lavelle Eilish Keane Meave Walsh and Emily Murray. Kilmaine grabbed a goal and two points. After the break McHale/Rovers Girls Lisa Lavelle Caoimhe Walsh tacked on three points and one each from Emily Murray and Niamh Maughan. Kilmaine scored another 1 – 2 to leave the final score 3 – 15 to 2 – 4

Community Services programme

Under the Community Services programme, Crossmolina Community Council provide a range of Services for Senior’s and others within the Community.

We are currently drawing up the Autumn/Winter work programme. The range of services provided is as follows: Maintaining gardens for Seniors-Lawns, hedges, tree trimming, Replacing light bulbs, alarm batteries, Painting inside houses. There is a small per hour charge for this service. Under the CSP programme Log stores, Composting bins, and Flower basket surrounds can also be made. Examples can be viewed in the yard at the rear of the Enterprise Centre. If you or someone you know in the Community wish to find out more please contact 096 30934/096 30935

Festival News.

The recent Crossmolina Festival will feature on the "Irish At Home & Abroad" TV show next Thursday, Aug. 24th at 7pm. The programme can be viewed on Sky Channel 212 or on Freesat 161 and will include highlights of the festival. If you have any friends or relations living abroad, please tell them to tune in.

Ladys Football

McHale/Rovers Minor Lady’s put up a great performance in the County Championship against St Bridgets at Tiernans Park. It looked good for the hosts who lead at the break by seven points with Lisa Lavelle Dara Moore and Niamh McAndrew getting the scores but St Bridget’s with Collett Clarke constant menace with her scoring finishing with a total of 3 – 6. McHale/Rovers were still leading with less than ten minuets to play but the winners finished with a scoring spree to turn around and win by a rather flattering ten points in the end 6 – 11 to 4 - 7

Crossmolina Junior team suffered a heavy defeat away to Kilmeena in the county Division 1D League on Sunday week. The County Quarter finals were always in command with Liam Heanue dictating the play from midfield and Darragh Keavney and Alan Ryan getting the scorers the West Mayo side ran out easy winners by 4 – 12 to 0 – 4

Minor Championship 

Crossmolina minor team were unlucky to loose out to Erris St Pats in the North Mayo Championship played in Bangor in a closely contested game throughout with Adam Carabine and Mickie Lavelle a constant threat with their long-range points when assisted by the breeze.  A Robert Murphy goal after 24 minuets brought the Deel-Siders right back in the game the same player was denied by the St Pats goalkeeper with brilliant save just on the stroke of half time to leave the hosts leading by four points 1 – 8 to 1 – 4 Darragh Gill flashed over a point on the restart Patrick McAndrew brought his side within a point of Erris St Pats with a goal in the sixth minuet but Adam Carabine and Mickie Lavelle were knocking over points on the break and as hard  as Darragh Gill Colm Hegarty and Adam Langan tried with points for Crossmolina they just could not break down the solid St Pats defence for the all important extra scores to leave final score Erris St Pats 1- 12 Crossmolina 2 – 8

Crossmolina Post Office

An Post has made a proposal to relocate postal delivery workers out of Crossmolina Post Office and Foxford Post Office to Lahardane to a mail hub. This would be detrimental to Crossmolina Post Office and we are appealing it. We would appreciate public support and a petition is available to sign at the front door of the Post Office.
