Cathal Davis Ardagh/Crossmolina Boxing club who scored a fantastic win in Castlerea last weekend to become Connacht Champion at 41.5kg over Swinfords Noel Gallagher on a unanimous decision. Cathal will now go to box for his Irish title in the National Stadium on Easter week

Under 8 Art Competition in Mayo Community Games

Adam Doherty  Richmond NS who came 1st in the under 8 art competition in mayo Community Games representing Kilmurry. He will go on to represent mayo in the national community games finals in Limerick in May.

Festival of Lights 

The festival of lights committee would like to thank everyone that contributed to making the festival a huge success, to all that participated in the 5K run and the light parade, all of the stewards, to the businesses that assisted the promotion of the festival, to the groups that organised different events and to everyone that turned out at the events over the weekend. The light parade will be televised in the coming weeks, a date has yet to be confirmed, keep up to date by following the festival on Facebook.

 

Mini 7s 

Crossmolina were unlucky to loose out by two points to The Quay NS in the Ballina Area Mini 7s National School Football final on Tuesday last in Sean Duffy Park Ardnaree. Leading by 2 – 1 to 1 – 1 with two goals from Dylan Flynn and a point from Kobe McDonald. The Quay scorers were Peter Barrett a point and the goal from Tiernan Tighe. The Quay School were quickly on level terms after the break with another Tiernan Tighe Goal the same player tacked on a point Kobe McDonald minuets later added two point before Padraic Gavin Gave his side a two points advantage with goal Oisin Deane reduced the lead with a point. In the next attack Oisin Struck the butt of the post and another effort was scrambles off the line. The Quay held on to win by two points 3 – 3 to 2 - 4 in a very exciting game played in ideal weather. The Crossmolina Day Centre will run a 10 week YOGA class beginning with a taster session on Wednesday 28th March from 12m/d - 1.00pm in the Social Services Centre. Festival News

The 12th annual Duck Race takes place next Sunday, April 1st, after 11:30am mass. Ducks are available to buy in local outlets with 1st prize a large exclusive Easter egg and lots of regular Easter eggs for the runner up ducks. The Summer Community festival will have "Homecoming" as it's theme so if you have family or friends living elsewhere in Ireland or abroad, let them know that Crossmolina will be the place to be, July 18th - 22nd, with lots of family themed events planned.

Died in London

The death took place recently of Ellie Tyrell (nee Callaghan), London, formerly of Knockbrack, Crossmolina. Burial Took place on Thursday, 22 March, 2018 after her requiem mass at the Church of Our Lady and St Thomas of Canterbury, Harrow-on- the-Hill, Middlesex. London. Ellie was predeceased by her husband, Richard and is survived by her daughters, Patricia and Deirdre, her son, Richard, her daughter in law, sons in law, nieces and nephews, and her sisters, Elizabeth Moran, Kilkelly and Veronica McDonnell Kinard, Crossmolina. May she rest in Peace

Their was no winner of the Crossmolina Deel-Rovers GAA Club Lotto Jackpot on Saturday night 17th  March The numbers were  13 – 14 – 16 – 23. Kilmurry Soccer Camp

The Fai Soccer Sisters camp will be held on the 5th and 6th of April in Kilmurry.The Camp is for Girls from 6 to 14 years of age. The cost of the camp is 30 euro if booked before April the 1st. Late booking of 5 euro is added after this date.

Sweeney Cup

Ballina edged out Crossmolina in a exciting North Mayo Sweeney Cup tie at James Stephens Park on St Patricks Day by two points. The Stephenites dominated the opening quarter when assisted by the breeze racing into a seven point’s advantage thanks to a string of points from Kevin Newell Simon Leonard and Keith Tighe. Fionan Duffy replied with a point before Kevin Mulhern and Mickie Loftus grabbed goals each and Cathal Carolan pointed to leave just a point separating the sides at the break 0 – 9 to 2 – 2 The second half Crossmolina took command in the opening quarter and raced into a four points lead thanks to points Fionan Duffy. David Tighe punished Deel-Siders slack defending with a goal that reduced the lead to a point Kevin Newell Simon Leonard and Keith Tighe traded points with Fionan Duffy and Gerard Haran to leave the final score 1 – 14 to 2 – 9

Died in Swinford

The death occurred peacefully on Sunday 18th March at St. Attractas Nursing Home Charlestown of Elizabeth Lylia McGuinness nee Bourke, Culmore, Swinford formerly of Corvokeen, Crossmolina. Her remains reposed at Campbells Funeral Home Swinford on Monday evening with removal to her Daughter Margaret’s residence in Culmore. Requiem mass on Tuesday in the Church of our Lady Help of Christians Swinford with burial afterwards in Crossmolina Cemetery. Elizabeth was predeceased by her Husband Patrick and son John is survived by her son P.J London, daughters Mary Corcoran Ballina, Margaret Devaney Culmore Swinford and Angela McGuinness Howley Castlebar. Sons- in- law, Daughters-in-law, Nephews, Nieces Grandchildren Great-Grandchildren, Family Circle, friends and neighbours. May she rest in peace.

Died in London

Pat Timoney of London, son of Molly Timoney formerly of Eskeragh and London. Born in 1950 sadly passed away on the 14th February is survived by wife Doreen and kids. May he rest in peace

The Late Kathleen O’Malley.

The death occurred peacefully on Wednesday 14th March at her residence in her 99th year of Kathleen O’Malley nee Gallagher Commach Castlehill Ballina. Her remains reposed at her residence until Friday with removal to the Church of our Lady Kilmurray for requiem mass with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. Kathleen was predeceased by her husband Tom is survived by her sons Tom and Tony Commach, daughters Margaret Kenny Charlestown, Mary Garvin Porturlin, sister Annie Miskell Clane, Co. Kildare, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, relatives, friends and neighbours. May she rest in peace

Crossmolina National School advanced to the next section of the North Mayo Girls Mini 7s football at Tiernans Park on Tuesday last with wins over Mount Palmer/Templemay and Laherdane in the round robin section. Crossmolina went on to record 4 – 3 to 2 – 0 win over Ballycastle in the final first half goals from Charlie Louise Benson Zara Moyles and Zara Fox with Elise Tuohill raising Ballacastles green flag the second half was a much close contest with Sarah Gough grabbing a goal and Zara Fox a point Ballycastles goal came from live wire forward Elise Tuohill

Paddy was predeceased by his wife Kathleen is survived by his son Peter, daughters Kathleen Hegarty Bofeenaun, Patricia O’Donnell Porturlin, Geraldine Deane London, Jackie Gallagher Manulla Castlebar, sons – in – law grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister’s Mary Mangan Manchester, Nora Echenberg New York, nieces, nephews, relations, extended family, friends and neighbours. Jack McDonnell RIP

The death occurred peacefully on Tuesday 13th March at Temple Street Hospital of Jack McDonnell age 12 years Ballyvicmaha Castlehill. His remains reposed at Hineys Funeral Home on Thursday Evening. With Requiem mass on Friday in St Tiernans Church burial afterwards in Kilmurry Cemetery. Pat was predeceased by his wife Margaret is survived by his daughters Martina and Deirdre, son – in – law pierce, grandchildren, sisters Evelyn Conway Eskeragh, Rita O’Donnell Dooleeg, and Martina O’Donnell London, nieces, nephews, relations, extended family, friends and neighbours. Festival brochures are now available in all local shops etc, the Festival Of Lights, March 16th – 18th includes a full weekend of events incl. 5k Run, Light Parade, Sports Event, Table Quiz plus Music & Dancing. The public are urged to note that there will be traffic delays in Crossmolina on March 17th from 6:30pm – 8:00pm due to the Electric Light Parade which this year will be recorded for TV broadcast. Schools Mini 7s.

Crossmolina National School won their section of North Mayo Mini Sevens football after great final with Killala at a sunny St Tiernans Park after all the harsh weather of late. The sea siders lead at the break 1 – 3 to 1 – 2 James McLoughlin grabbing Killala’s goal and Josh Moyles raised the green flag   Crossmolina  Kobe McDonald and Oisin Deane pointed for the home side with Sean Walsh with two and Michael Nealon one the points scorers for Killala. Two Kobe McDonald points in quick succession after gave his side the lead and Oisin Deans 1 – 2 helped Crossmolina into a six points advantage Sean Walsh and Ray Murphy reduced lead with points each which was wiped out by a Luke Williams Goal after great approach work both goalkeepers made a couple of great saves over the course of the game. Crossmolina had wins over Rathbane, Laherdane and Ballycastle in the Round Robin Section

In their second game a much stronger Ballycastle side ran out comfortable winners final score 2 – 7 to 0 – 3 with Joey Keane James O’Boyle and Esmond Maughan the point scorers for the Deel-Siders 

 

"Miles in the Memory" cycle to honour Rescue 116

Come out and show your support and encouragement for the cyclists taken part in “Miles in the Memory” cycle from Dublin to Blacksod to honour Rescue 116 and all lost off our coast.

Cyclists will be approaching Crossmolina from Ballina approx. 12.30pm – 2.00pm Sunday 11th March 2018.
