Congratulation to Jonathan O’Boyle Carrowcloughy and Nettie Flannery Castlebar who were married in St Tiernans church Crossmolina on Saturday week with Reception in the Broadhaven Bay Hotel Belmullet. Wishing you both many years good health and Happiness from all your friends  

 

Winter League.

Crossmolina dominated the first half of this North Mayo Winter League tie in Kilfine when aided by a strong breeze with Gerard Haran notching 2-3 of his sides 2-9. A Liam Ruddy goal in the 27th minute gave the Kilfine boys a great boost going in at the break with 1-3 on the score board. Crossmolina just managed to all two more points in the second half from Fergal Duffy and J.P. Mulhern. Kilfine came storming back with goals from Kevin Boland Liam Ruddy and Niall McDonald to secure a deserved draw 4-7 to 2-11. Ballina FRC Parent & Toddler Group

The Parent & Toddler group takes place every Thursday from 10.00am to 12.00 noon in the centre.  This group is open to all parents, Grandparents and childminders to come along with their child/children and meet new people over a cuppa and a chat.  Various activities take place and new members are always welcome. Crossmolina Deel-Rovers Intermediate team have been drawn against Ballinrobe, Ballyhaunis and Laherdane in this years Championship with games not taking place until third week in August 

 

Award for Niamh.

Congratulation to Niamh Larkin McHale/Rovers on being the recipient of the Connacht Telegraph Young sports Star for the month of November for her outstanding displays for the Club during their wonderful achievement on reaching the All-Ireland final where they were defeated by a very experienced Donoughmore side from Cork by one point after extra time.

There was no winner of the Crossmolina Deel-Rovers GAA Club Lotto Jackpot on Saturday 29th February the numbers drawn were 11 – 20 – 22 – 27 no punter matched three numbers either and three tickets were drawn. Noel Rowland Eskeragh Crossmolina, Pat Timlin Killala Liam Cawley Erris St Crossmolina each win €50. The Draw took place in the Thatch Bar. This week’s Jackpot is €3,900. Mindspace Outreach service in Ballina FRC.

Mindspace Mayo offers a support service to young people (15-25yrs) presenting with anything from common concerns (e.g. dealing with break-up, exam stress, bullying) to young people with emerging mental health difficulties such as mild depression and anxiety.  The outreach service will run one day a week (Monday) and is based in the Ballina Family Resource Centre. Pieta House New Increased Hours.

Pieta House provides counselling, therapy and support to individuals, couples, families and children who have been bereaved by suicide or feeling suicidal.

Exercise for Women.

The ‘Crossmolina St. Patrick’s Weekend Festival’ is taking place from Friday, 13th of March to Tuesday, 17th of March 2020. During this time there will be a ‘Best Window Display Competition’ held involving all the businesses and organisations in Crossmolina town. To enter all you have to do is create a window display to signify St. Patrick’s Day and your window will be judged during the Festival Weekend. Result of ‘Best Window Display 2020’ will be announced on the night of the ‘Electric Light Parade’, which is Monday, 16th of March 2020. Crossmolina Badminton club Success.

Great excitement for Crossmolina when Kate Ann Loftus and Oliver Jackson won the "A" Singles title in Ballina last weekend in the U10 event.  We were also delighted with Saoirse Murray B singles r-up and Eabha McGoff C singles r-up. In the U12 Tara Hegarty C singles r-up and greater excitement when Sarah Conway won "B" singles and Lucy Lavin "B" r-up took B home. Well done everyone. And special thanks to Martina Denise Catherine and David for making this possible

Bonniconlon ran out deserving winners in this Sweeney cup tie in Bonniconlon on Sunday week. The Host lead at the break by 0 – 6 to 0 – 2 and held on for one point win in the end 0 -12 to 0 – 11. This was Crossmolina’s first game of the season

Community Festival Events. 

Brochures for the upcoming Festival Of Lights are now available locally and online.  The festival runs from March 13th to 17th with the highlight been the Electric Light Parade on Monday March 16th.  There is a full list of entries again this year and two added attractions.  Firstly the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter will perform a special searchlight flyover and the parade will also include "Bumblebee" and "Celtic Warrior" giant robots who will also be available after the parade in the Town Hall for a meet and greet plus photo opportunity for the children.  The robots have appeared at many international events in Dublin and are sponsored by The Thatch Bar.  Parking restrictions will be in place on the afternoon of Mon. 16th to prepare for the Light Parade and erect the viewing platform which we would like to thank AGS Scaffolding for facilitating this.  All of the events in the festival are free and include entertainment nightly kicking off with a "Folk N' Craic" session in Stick's on Fri. 13th.  On Saturday 14th there will be a St. Patrick's Day Badges workshop in the Town Hall, contact 087 050 6353 to register free of charge with entertainment that night in Christy's, Maughan's & The Thatch.  During the festival we encourage businesses and homes in the area to decorate and light their windows with a prize for the most creative sponsored by Pat Kelly Autopoint.  On Sunday at 5pm there will be a free children's disco in the Town Hall, music, fun and games and to keep in the theme of the weekend it would be great to see the children light up for the disco.  To round off the festival weekend there will be a Round Bale Roll Off on Chapel St. on Tuesday March 17th at 7pm.  Teams of 4 will try to secure the fastest time to share the prize money sponsored by Pat Kelly autopoint.  To enter call 086 812 7004.  We hope everyone has a great weekend, enjoy the celebrations and thank you for your support.

The Kilmurry Community Games Quiz competition will be held on Wednesday 4th at 3.30 pm in Kilmurry Centre. Competitors must be resident in the Kilmurry Community Games area (catchment areas of Scoil Neifinn and Kilmurry NS) and be born on or after 1st August 2006.

 

Dementia Dance Club.

Community Action on Dementia is a FREE dance club for people living with dementia and their families/carers. It is held in the Ballina Family Resource Centre every Thursday from 2.30pm to 4.00 pm.  Light refreshments served.  Ring Francis on 0868366312 for more info.

 

Kilmurry Youths Soccer

The annual Church Gate collection in aid of Kilmurry Youths Soccer Club will take place next weekend 7th and 8th March. The Club provides training and matches for over 250 boys and girls from 6 to 17 years of age . As this is the Club's 30th Anniversary it is hoped to mark the occasion with some special events for which funds will be required . Please support this collection.

St. Tiernan’s Cemetery committee are looking for people to help out with general maintenance over the Spring and Summer months. Unfortunately, there is no help available at present from the Employment Schemes. John William Suzaki RIP.

The death occurred recently  of John William Suzaki 42 Devonshire House, Sutton, Surrey, England.

Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday last February 28th  in the Church of Our Lady of Mercy, Eskeragh followed by burial of Ashes in Crossmolina Cemetery. John was pre deceased by his wife Teresa nee McDonnell Eskeragh, Bellacorick, Ballina, Co. Mayo, brother – in – law Paddy McDonnell, is survived by his sister – in – law, Bridie who lives in London, relations, extended family, friends and neighbours. May he rest in peace
