U14 Girls Final

McHale/Rovers 4 – 10 Westport B 4 – 6

What a game this U14 Girls C Football County final at Tiernans Park on Saturday week turned out to be from the throw in Westport attacked the hosts goal it took a wonderful save from Charlie Reilly to prevent the Westerns from raising a green flag this inspired McHale/Rovers to take the game to their opponents but in a couple of goalmouth scrambles they just could not score against a very strong defence. Larissa Kelly opened her sides account Chloe Chambers finished to the net after a pass from Christina McEvilly who minuet’s later tacked on 1 – 1 before another McEvilly assist to Chloe Chambers who calmy drill the ball to the net gave her side an eleven points advantage at the first water break 3 – 2 without reply. Whatever was in the water or said during the break certainly had effect on the McHale/Rovers Girls  Kayla Doherty who was double marked throughout pointed from the restart Rionagh McHale pointed and Maeve Cosgrove scored her sides first goal all in the space of four minutes Back came Westport with Chloe Chambers tacked on a point Christina McEvilly who roamed all over the park grabbed her second goal and added two points as well which Kayla Doherty  replied with a point  and Sarah Gough tacked on two to leave the half time score 4 – 5 to 1 – 5 The third quarter McHale/Rover out score Westport  2 – 2 to a point with goals from Kayla Doherty and Roisin Tolan and couple of Doherty points to a single Westport point from Chloe Chambers in the 44th minute which was their only score in the second half. McHale/Rovers management made a telling switch with bringing on of Alicia Brennan in goal taking off Ayla O’Malley and putting Charlie Reilly into midfield and her fitness and work rate when the outfield players were tiring after their efforts in getting back into a game that look lost. Charlie Reilly banged in a goal minuets in final quarter to give her side the lead and Kayla Doherty Leah Hopkins and Sarah Gough tacked on points extend the McHale/Rovers lead to four points. In between those late score the North Mayo sides defence stood tall and some wonderful blocking and covering denied the Westport girls of getting scores as they tried so hard to find an opening. It was a wonderful advertisement for lady’s football played in the right spirt fast and furious at all times great scores, fielding and Defending by both sides

McHale/Rovers Team and scorers were Charlie Reilly 1 – 0 Aoife Gordan Katelynn Leonard (Capt) Clodagh O’Boyle Alicia Brennan Deribhle Doyle Laura Gallagher Zara Moyles Kayla Doherty 1 – 5 Gráinne Loftus Rionagh McHale 0 – 1 Sarah Gough 0 – 3 Roisin tolan 1 – 0 Maeve Cosgrove 1 – 0 Ayla O’Malley Subs Leah Hopkins 0 - 1 for Alicia Brennan Alicia Brennan for Ayla O’Malley

Covid 19 Pandemic .

The spread of the virus has reached serious levels and constitutes a real risk of radically increased infection within the community. In many cases, the increase in numbers is due to gatherings within households and communities.

That is the reason why the public health authorities are stressing the urgent need to reduce the number of contacts that each one of us has in this period.  Reducing contacts requires a specific effort on the part of each of us to deliberately change the number of people with whom we would normally come into contact. This is as important in the current situation as the need for face masks, social distancing and hand washing.

Thank God, there has been no indication of the virus being spread in worshiping communities. Thanks to all who help in sanitising our Churches every day. Let us continue to pray for one another and all our parish community that we will get through this Pandemic.
