The Late Tommy Lynn 

The death occurred peacefully on Tuesday 17th December at the Galway Clinic of Tommy Lynn Faranoo Killala Rd Ballina, formerly of Mullenmore Crossmolina and Keenagh. His remains reposed at Hiney’s Funeral Home on Thursday evening. Funeral Mass in St Patricks Church Ballina on Friday morning with burial afterwards in Crossmolina Cemetery. Tommy is survived by his wife Mary daughters Mary T., Rosaleen, Breege, Deirdre, Kathleen, Aoife, sons Pat, Frank, Seán, Keith, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, his sixteen loving grandchildren, sister-in-law Anne Finnerty, extended Lynn and McHale families, neighbours and friends. May he rest in peace

 

New Business 

Congratulation and Good luck to Anthony and Eilish Gill on the opening of their new Coffee Shop and Bakery in The Old Post Office on Main St Crossmolina. 

 

Liam New Chairman 

Congratulation to Liam Moffatt who was elected Chairman of Mayo GAA becoming only the Second Crossmolina Clubman to hold the Office. The first being Cannon William Davis PP back in 1948 and 1949. It’s a great Honour for the Deel-Rovers Club and especially Liam and all the Moffatt Family who have been associated with the club for many decades playing and administrators. Liam All-Ireland Club medal Winner with club in 2001. Having played in all grades of football for Club and county during his career

The late Bridie Barrett 

The death occurred peacefully on Monday 16th December of Bridie Barrett nee Rowland Moy Heights and formerly of Keenagh Ballina. Her remains reposed at McGowans Funeral Home Ballina on Thursday Evening with removal to St. Muredach's Cathedral Ballina. Mass of the Resurrection on Friday morning with burial afterwards in Leigue Cemetery. Bridie was Predeceased by her husband John and son Peter, brothers Anthony and Sean and sister Mary Mullarkey. Deeply regretted and sadly missed by her heartbroken daughter Mary Catherine, sons Pat and Sean, brother Paddy Keenagh Ballina, grandchildren Jonathan, Thomas, Seafra, Jennifer and Niamh, daughter-in-law Bernie, sister-in-law Margaret Rowland, brother-in-law Jackie Mullarkey, nephews, nieces, Sandra, Aoife and Clodgh Goodwin, relatives, carers, neighbours and many friends. May she rest in peace

Her remains reposed at Hiney’s Funeral home on Wednesday evening with removal to The Church of Our Lady, Kilmurry. Requiem Mass on Thursday with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. GAA Club AGM

Crossmolina Deel-Rovers Annual General Meeting was held on Friday 22nd November and was well attended. Eamon Howley Stepped down as Chairman after 6 Years. He was thanked by all in attendance for the role he filled and the

Dementia Dance Club

Ciaran McDonald Mayo Coaching Role

At the executive meeting of Crossmolina Deel-Rover Club on Tuesday night Ciaran McDonald was Congratulation and wished the best of good luck on appointment to the Mayo Senior Coaching Staff. Ciaran’s role will be to work closely with James Burke in a coaching capacity and will support the development of the players in a football context.

The Executive meeting of the Deel-Rovers club on Tuesday night Rachel Kearns was congratulated on her All-Star Award and the McHale /Rover team on the wonderful achievements during the winning Mayo and Connacht Titles and were only a score away from a historic all- Ireland title. What enjoyment you gave us all thanks for the memories

Dr Gerard Short Listed 

Congratulation to Dr Gerard Clarke Tubridge Keenagh who has been named on the 2019 list of highly cited Researchers in a study which recognises the most influential scientists in the world. Dr Gerard son of John and Ann a former pupil of Keenagh National School, Convent of Jesus and Mary Crossmolina and UCG. The Cork Based Researcher is among the nine APC Microbiome Ireland SFI research centre investigators selected is a Lecturer in Psychiatry and Neurobehavioural Science at UCC and APC Microbiome Ireland 

 

Died in London 

The death occurred peacefully on Friday 29th November in London of Marion Snee formerly of Mullenmore Crossmolina. Funeral will take place in London on this Wednesday with cremation in the City of London Creatorium. Marion predeceased by her husband Michael, sons James and Michael, sadly missed by her sons Robin, Liam, Joseph and Niall, daughters Sheila and Eileen, son-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews friends and neighbours. May she rest in peace

Died in New York

The death occurred peacefully recently in Manhattan New York of Julia O’Sullivan nee Irwin formerly of Derryhillagh Castlehill. Mother of Maureen Hefferon Owenboy Crossmolina and Judy Barrett Derreen Boughadoon, Julia died in her 103rd year predeceased by her eight siblings. Spanning 5 generation she was grandmother to 10 and great grandmother to 14 and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral mass was in Manhattan followed by cremation. Her remains were buried in Kilmurray cemetery following mass in Our Lady’s Church Kilmurray. May she rest in peace 

 

Doing a Clear Out – Clothes Recycling

We are doing a Cash for Clobber as a Fundraiser for the Centre, your support would be greatly appreciated.  If you need bags we have some in the centre, just drop in and collect them. Mindspace Outreach service in Ballina FRC

Mindspace Mayo offers a support service to young people (15-25yrs) presenting with anything from common concerns (e.g. dealing with break-up, exam stress, bullying) to young people with emerging mental health difficulties such as mild depression and anxiety.  The outreach service will run one day a week (Monday) and is based in the Ballina Family Resource Centre. Pieta House provides counselling, therapy and support to individuals, couples, families and children who have been bereaved by suicide or feeling suicidal.

European Award for Sarah

Congratulation and well done to Sarah Melvin Errew Castlehill who was awarded the Prestigious European player of the year award by the Major Ultimate Frisbee publication recently. This was in recognition for her for roll in Captaining the Ireland Frisbee team that won the Gold medal in the European final against Switzerland back in July. This was the first time an Irish Team has won Gold at an International Tournament 

 

Badminton News 

Well done to our medal winners Patrick Leonard and Laura and Oliver Jackson who competed at Mayo Close Championship in BallinaU13s competition. Also congratulations to Anne Murphy winner of the Plate singles, U17 and Anne and Aoibhe Dunne, runner up in Girls Doubles section. We are so pleased for you all. Christmas Hooley

Deel/Ardagh Macra Na Feirme are hosting a Christmas Hooley on this coming Saturday night 14th December at 9pm in the Thatch Bar Crossmolina. All singers, dancers, and Story tellers are welcome. Finger food will be served and their will be a raffle on the night with lots of wonderful prizes.

Ann Murphy who was a winner in the U17 Plate section and Aoibhe Dunne runner-up in the girls doubles section in the Mayo Close championship in Ballina recently.

Well Done Ladies 

Congratulation and Well Done to McHale/Rovers Ladies who did us all so proud in their all-Ireland final defeat against the very experienced Donoughmore of Cork on a day when all the luck deserted them. The huge crowd of supporters who greeted the team bus on its arrival back in Ardagh, Crossmolina and Laherdane was a fitting tribute to the team and mentors for their heroic performance and for all the pleasure they have given the whole area during a very successful Mayo and Connacht Campaign

The Late Padraic Barrett 

The death occurred peacefully on Monday 18th November at his residence of Padraic (Patrick) Barrett Glenisland, Castlebar, Co. Mayo and late of Derreen, Keenagh. His Remains reposed at Glenisland Presbytery on Wednesday evening. Requien mass on Thursday in the Holy Rosary Church Glenisland with burial afterwards in Glenisland Cemetery. Padraic is survived by his wife Ann, sons Noel, Fenton, Kevin, Declan, Raymond and Damien, daughter Linda, brothers Jack (Derreen) and Michael (Glenisland), daughters-in-law Anne (Staunton), Siobhan (McManamon), Bernie (Kearns, Manulla) and Yvonne (Heneghan), grandchildren, sister-in-law Judy and Tec, brother – in – law Paul Coyne nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends. May he rest in peace.

 

Mindspace Outreach service in Ballina FRC

Mindspace Mayo offers a support service to young people (15-25yrs) presenting with anything from common concerns (e.g. dealing with break-up, exam stress, bullying) to young people with emerging mental health difficulties such as mild depression and anxiety.  The outreach service will run one day a week (Monday) and is based in the Ballina Family Resource Centre. U21 Championship.

Crossmolina finished up their U21 Championship round robin section with a one point win over Naomh Padraic at Tiernans Park on Sunday week 0 – 12 to 1 – 8 Crossmolina lead at the break by two points thanks to free taking of Edward Gough who accounted for five points and Colm Hegarty one from a 45m. Niall McDonnell Rory McGuire and Cian O’Dea replied for the Sea-Siders. Ciaren McDonnell Sean McLean pointed from play after thirty seven minuets to level the scoring Conor Caden scored an inspiring point after 50m run Sean McLean then notched 1-3 in the space of six minuets on the three quarter hour mark Crossmolina fought back with points from Robert Murphy and Edward Gough two each before Robert Murphy pointed his side into the lead deep in injury time for deserved one point win. Which in the end was not good enough to go through to the Semi-finals loosing out on scoring difference in the end

The Late Chrissie Wherley.

The Death occurred peacefully on Tuesday 19thy November of Chrissie Wherley The Boreen Crossmolina Crossmolina and late of Riverview Nursing Home Ballina. Her remains reposed at Hiney’s Funeral Home on Thursday evening with removal to St Tiernans Church. Requiem Mass on Friday with burial afterwards in Crossmolina Cemetery. Chrissie Niece of the late Julia Munnelly (The Boreen), deeply mourned by her loving sisters Gertie Donnellan (Dunmore), Doris Kedian (Ballyhaunis), niece Cathy Flynn (Ardagh), brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, friends and neighbours. May she rest in peace

U21 Championship 

Ardmoy/McHales 1 – 11 Crossmolina 1 – 10

Crossmolina had much the better of the early exchanges but poor shooting was to proof costly leading by four points entering the last five minuets the hosts snatched 1-1 from Shane Finnerty to leave just a point separating the sides at the break 1-6 to 1-5 Lorcan Loftus finishing the ball to the net after it came back of the post for Crossmolina. After the break Crossmolina tacked on three points inside five minuets from Edward Gough Conor Caden and Darragh Gill a head injury to Jordan Flynn which resulted in  concussed denied the Deel-Siders valuable leadership and for the remaining 25 minuets could only manage to score one more point from Patrick McAndrew  and Adrmoy/McHale drove on scoring six points from three from Enda Flanagan one each from Darragh Walsh Lee Traynor and Shane Finnerty to gain two valuable points in this very well contested U21 Championship group
