The death occurred peacefully at her residence on Monday 20th March of Bridie O’Malley nee Dunleavy Church Rd Crossmolina. Her remains reposed at her residence and at Hiney’s Funeral home on Wednesday evening with removal to St Tiernans Church. With Burial on Thursday in Crossmolina Cemetery after Requiem Mass. Bridie is survived by her husband Pat, daughters Mary T, Bernadette, Joan, Aedamair, Anne, Sisters Maggie Annie, Josie, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, grandchildren, sons-in-law, nieces, nephews, relations, extended family, friends and neighbours. May she rest in peace

 

Festival News

Thank you to everyone that was involved in the St. Patrick's Light Parade and making it the success it was especially given the adverse weather conditions, from those that took part and made an effort which was beyond everybody's expectations to create a memorable parade, and also all of the stewards, all who helped with lights, staging, traffic etc. The "Singing Pubs 2017" starts on Friday April 7th with the first heat in Christy's, this year there will be €100 for the winner of each heat and €1000 plus recording opportunities for the overall winner, if you would like to take part or have any queries please call Vicky 087 31623676, John 087 4176291 or Michael 085 7459429, full details on Crossmolina Festival Facebook Page.

The Late Michael Brogan 

The death occurred peacefully on Sunday 19th March at Mayo University Hospital Castlebar after brief illness of Michael (Mickie) Brogan Springfield Castlebar. His remains reposed at Caody’s Funeral Home Castlebar on Tuesday evening with removal to St Tiernans Church Crossmolina with burial on Wednesday in Crossmolina Cemetery after requiem mass. Michael was in his ninety ninetieth year was pre-deceased by his wife Maud (nee Gallagher), deeply mourned by his loving nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, relatives and friends. May he rest in peace 

 

 

Died in Westmeath 

The death has occurred peacefully and suddenly on Thursday, March 16th of Norah Granahan (née Corcoran), Gillardstown, Collinstown, Co. Westmeath, and late of Keenagh Beg and Coolnabinna, Boughadoon, Ballina, Co. Mayo; Her remains reposed at Midland Regional Hospital Mortuary, Mullingar on Saturday evening with removal to St Marys Church Collinstown funeral mass on Sunday with burial afterwards in Whitehall Cemetery. Norah was predeceased by her husband J.P. is survived by her family Vincent, Claire, Brendan, Sean, Peter, Colette and Barbara.  sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, sisters Ann O'Flaherty Islandeady and Breege Mannion Ballyheane Castlebar, brother-in-law Tommie, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends. May she rest in peace

Community Services Programme - Wed 22nd March 2017

Under the Community Services programme, Crossmolina Community Development provides a range of Services for Seniors and others within the Community.

We are currently drawing up the Spring /Summer work programme.

 The range of services provided is as follows:

 Painting outside and inside of houses , Maintaining gardens for Seniors-Lawns, hedges, tree trimming ,Replacing light bulbs, alarm batteries etc.

There is a small per hour charge for this service.

Crossmolina Drama Group perform “Mother Knows Best” again - Tribute to the late James Hogan

After three complete sell-out performances in Crossmolina Town Hall with indeed a number of people not being able to gain entry Crossmolina Drama Group are pleased to announce that they are now gearing up for one final performance of Jimmy Keary’s hilarious comedy “Mother Knows Best” which will take place on this Sunday 26th  March at 8pm. This performance will be staged as a tribute to the late James Hogan who was a member of the group and who died suddenly on the 31st of December last. Proceeds from this performance will go towards the purchase of a Defibrillator for Crossmolina Town, fitting tribute to a man who was at the heart of every community endeavour. 

If you were disappointed to miss our last performances or want to support this worthy cause we look forward to seeing you there – Crossmolina Parish Hall on Sunday 26th  March at 8pm.

Crossmolina secured their place in the quarter final of the Michael Walsh cup League with a rather flattering 2 – 12 to 1 – 5 win over Garrymore at Tiernans Park on Sunday week Martin McAndrew opened the scoring and finished the half with a points in between Cathal Carolan tacked on two points Brian Benson and Tommy Walsh added points each for Garry more Colm O’Neill and Mark Tierney were their point scorers after the break Brian Benson and Mark Tierney exchanged points Michael Connolly brought the visitors right back in the games with a goal after 7 minuets immediately Cathal Carolan restored his sides advantage with two points from play. Michael Connolly and Kevin Mulhern swopped points before Crossmolina took control with Goals from Cathal Carolan and Dean Loftus and points from Derek Hegarty and Brian Benson with Michael Connolly pointing For Garrymore to leave Crossmolina comfortable winners on the score board in a games that was closely contested for 50 minuets

Jack Leonard Photographic Exhibition 

Which was officially launched on Wednesday evening last in the Jackie Clarke Centre Ballina by Dara Calleary TD. This wonderful photographic exhibition entitled “In my Grandfather’s Time” showcasing the wonderful work of renowned local photographer Jack Leonard who took some outstanding images of the west of Ireland in the early 1900’s. The Exhibition runs until April 8th. Do call in to see this exhibition. It’s well worth viewing

Died in Dallas Texas

Crossmolina parish was once again shocked and saddened with the news of a fatal car accident in Dallas Texas on Wednesday 1st March  which claimed the life of husband and wife Tina nee Judge formerly of Erris Street Crossmolina and Senan Fitzmartin formerly of Doonbeg Co Clare. Funeral is taking place today Monday in Dallas. Tina and Senan are survived by their Daughter Michelle, sons Donald and Glen, son – in – law, daughters – in – law, grandchildren, Tina’s sisters Noreen Griffin The Boreen Crossmolina, Maura Patten Donegal, brothers Sean New York, Micheal The Boreen sister – in – law, brother – in – law nieces, nephews, relations, extended family, friends and neighbours. May they rest in peace.

Her remains reposed at Hiney’s Funeral Home on Sunday evening with removal to St Tiernans Church burial on Monday in Crossmolina cemetery after requiem mass.  Jenny was pre-deceased by her husband John is survived by her  sons John London, Tony Athlone, Michael Melbourne and Frank Crossmolina, daughter  Maretta Corrigan Bangor Erris daughters – in – law son – in – law,  brother Murd, sister – in – law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives, many friends and neighbours. May she rest in peace.

Jack Leonard Photographic exhibition

The Jackie Clarke Collection hosts a wonderful photographic exhibition entitled “In my Grandfather’s Time” showcasing the wonderful work of renowned local photographer Jack Leonard who took some outstanding images of the west of Ireland in the early 1900’s. Crossmolina Festival Sub-Committee are looking for Stewards (male and female) to help out with the St. Patrick’s Weekend Festival, in particular with the ‘Electric Light Parade’ taking place Friday evening, 17th of March.  There will be a meeting on Tuesday night, 14th of March 2017 at 7:30p.m. in the Enterprise Centre in Crossmolina for anyone interested in being Steward.

The Late Henry Ormsby. 

The death occurred peacefully on Sunday 26th February at Abbey Breaffy Nursing Home Castlebar of Henry Ormsby in his 90th Year formerly of Fotish Crossmolina. His remains reposed at Hiney’s Funeral Home on Tuesday evening with removal to St Mary’s church Crossmolina. Funeral Service on Wednesday with burial afterwards in the adjoining Cemetery. Henry was pre-deceased by his sister Elizabeth brother Oliver, is survived by his nephew Cecil Fotish relations, extended family, friends and neighbours. May he rest in peace.

On this coming Sunday evening 12th March in Kilmurray Community centre with Music by The Padden’s Family commencing at 7pm admission €5. Come along meet and greet your friends. Refreshments served all are welcome

 

Michael Walsh League.

Crossmolina’s new management of Eoin Sweeny and Patrick McAndrew got their first win the this Michael Walsh League cup tie at Tiernans Park on Sunday week with heavy rain before and during the game conditions were not suited the type open football that both sides play Crossmolina got off to a great start with a goal and two points from Brian Benson and Thomas Cafferty point before Claremorris best forward James Shaughnessy  rattled of three points  with Mickie Loftus Mark Leonard and Thomas Cafferty replying with points each. Simon Heffernan and James Struttle grabbed points before the break to leave the score 1 – 6  to 0 – 5 Brian Benson and Cathal Carolan added points before James Shaughnessy and James Struttle replied with points for the visitors mid way through half Mick Higgins gave his side a life line with goal to reduce the lead to three points Crossmolina kicked on again with a string of points from Brian Benson Martin McAndrew Ciaran McDonald who came on as a sub and Mark Leonard in between those scores James Shoughnessy grabbed his sides second goal to leave the final score 2 – 15 to 2 – 8

The Late Mattie Merrick 

The Parish of Crossmolina and surrounding area were shocked and sadden when news of the death of Mattie Merrick Ballycorraun in a road accident on the Bellacorick to Castlebar road at Keenagh on Wednesday morning last while on his daily rounds with the post. His remains reposed at his residence on Thursday and at Hineys Funeral Home on Friday evening. Requiem mass on Saturday in St Tiernans  Church with burial after wards in Crossmolina Cemetery Mattie is survived by his wife Catherine, sons Joseph, Kieran and Marty, daughter Katie Brother Paddy London sister Angela Leeds, brothers – in – law, sisters – in – law, nephews, relations, extended family, colleagues in An Post, friends and Neighbours. May he rest in peace
