Kilmurry Social club News.

On this Sunday evening 12t April we all would be looking forward to our monthly get together social and dance in Kilmurry Centre to Michael Cleary. But as you all know that all social occasions are cancelled due the Covid 19 Virus which has hit our Country. The Organisers would like to wish all our patrons the very best at this very trying time for all of us and above all take the advice of the Health officials and keep safe because we will need all your support when this virus is cleared up   

 

Lotto Results.

Crossmolina Deel-Rovers GAA Club Lotto Jackpot has been suspended for a couple of weeks while we all get through this difficult time. Saturday night 28th March 2020. A lucky dip draw was held for all of our members who are contributing via direct debit and are long term lotto players.

Christy and Mary Garrett were the lucky winners and €50 is on its way to them.

COVID 19 DELIVERY SERVICE.

As all festivals and events are cancelled for the foreseeable future, the Crossmolina Festival group are putting their idle time to good use and are now available for deliveries to those people in the Parish that are staying at home during the virus pandemic.  If you would like any shopping, prescriptions etc delivered to your home, simply contact any of the local retailers, butchers or pharmacies, place your order, request delivery and the retailers will organise for members of the festival group to deliver your order that evening with urgent orders delivered during the day.  The festival would like to thank all those that have volunteered, now is the time to stay at home as much as possible and when normality returns, Crossmolina festival will be ready to host the events we will all need to celebrate. Dan Loftus

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cyril “Dan” Loftus, age 87, on March 22, 2020.  He passed away surrounded by his loving family.  Dan was born on July 13, 1932 in Elphin, Roscommon, Ireland to Martin and Mary (Conmy) Loftus.  When he was 18 years old, he came to America.  He married the love of his life, Kathleen (Catherine Gallagher) on August 11, 1951 at St. Gregory’s Church in Brooklyn, New York.  They were blessed with two children.

 

Dan was a proud veteran of the United States Army.  He served and attained the rank sergeant from 1954 to 1956.  

 

Dan was a small business owner and ran a liquor store in Brooklyn, New York for many years.  Dan believed that family was the most important thing and will be remembered most for his love and devotion to his family and friends.  He adored his five grandchildren and was always ready with a big hug whenever they came to visit.  He was extremely proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed telling his family stories about growing up in Ireland. 

 

Dan is survived by his beloved wife, Catherine and two adoring children, Deborah Loftus-Munns and her husband, Michael of Belle Harbor, Queens, and Kevin Loftus and his wife, Carolyn of Brewster, New York.  He is also survived by his five cherished grandchildren, Grace, Daniel (Chloe), Terence, Michael and Paddy.  Dan also leaves behind seven siblings, Dr. Michael Loftus, Dr. Declan Loftus, Dr. Colum Loftus, Finnian Loftus, Liam Loftus, Shane Loftus and Siobhan Loftus-Reid.  His brothers, Dr. John Vincent Loftus, Martin Loftus (Mae), Kevin Loftus (Carmel), his sister, Ettie Clinton (Cyril) and his nephew, Kevin Loftus, Jr. predeceased him.  Dan also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews here and in Ireland.

 

Dan will be missed greatly by all those who knew and loved him. 

 

A Mass of Christian burial to celebrate Dan’s life was held on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Church, 95 Plum Brook Road, Somers, N.Y.  

Following the service, Dan was brought to his final resting place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY where he did receive Military Honors from the United States Army

Fly Away Travel are working with MSC Cruises regarding our Cruise in June. They have assured us that they are working in our interest. More details to be advised.

 People are encouraged to shop local and support our local businesses at this difficult time.

 

4.Bulletin of Prayers:

 Prayers to be said at home when we cannot attend Mass are available on our Bulletin this week. People are encouraged to set up a sacred space with a Candle and Holy Picture or statue as you join us to pray the Mass on line.

Josephine McHale RIP

The death occurred peacefully on Friday 13th March at St. Augustine's Home, Ballina of Josephine McHale Kildaree Crossmolina. Her remains reposed at Hineys Funeral Home on Saturday evening with Removal  to the Church of Our Lady, Kilmurry Requiem Mass on Sunday Burial afterwards in adjoining Cemetery. Josephine was predeceased by her Parents Michael and Bridget, brothers Tommy, Michael and Vincent, sister Teresa and her husband Thomas and sister Kathleen, nieces Kathriona and Deirdre. Deeply mourned by her brothers Paddy (Rathball), Val (New Jersey), sister Imelda (Iowa), nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and neighbours. May she rest in peace

Congratulation to Jonathan O’Boyle Carrowcloughy and Nettie Flannery Castlebar who were married in St Tiernans church Crossmolina on Saturday week with Reception in the Broadhaven Bay Hotel Belmullet. Wishing you both many years good health and Happiness from all your friends  

 

Winter League.

Crossmolina dominated the first half of this North Mayo Winter League tie in Kilfine when aided by a strong breeze with Gerard Haran notching 2-3 of his sides 2-9. A Liam Ruddy goal in the 27th minute gave the Kilfine boys a great boost going in at the break with 1-3 on the score board. Crossmolina just managed to all two more points in the second half from Fergal Duffy and J.P. Mulhern. Kilfine came storming back with goals from Kevin Boland Liam Ruddy and Niall McDonald to secure a deserved draw 4-7 to 2-11. Ballina FRC Parent & Toddler Group

The Parent & Toddler group takes place every Thursday from 10.00am to 12.00 noon in the centre.  This group is open to all parents, Grandparents and childminders to come along with their child/children and meet new people over a cuppa and a chat.  Various activities take place and new members are always welcome. Doing a Clear Out – Clothes Recycling.

If you are clearing out your home please drop the clothes, shoes, bags etc into the Ballina Family Resource Centre, Abbey Street, Ardnaree. We are doing a Cash for Clobber as a Fundraiser for the Centre, your support would be greatly appreciated.  If you need bags we have some in the centre, just drop in and collect them. Intermediate Championships Draw

Crossmolina Deel-Rovers Intermediate team have been drawn against Ballinrobe, Ballyhaunis and Laherdane in this years Championship with games not taking place until third week in August 

 

Award for Niamh.

Congratulation to Niamh Larkin McHale/Rovers on being the recipient of the Connacht Telegraph Young sports Star for the month of November for her outstanding displays for the Club during their wonderful achievement on reaching the All-Ireland final where they were defeated by a very experienced Donoughmore side from Cork by one point after extra time.
