Mindspace Outreach service in Ballina FRC

Mindspace Mayo offers a support service to young people (15-25yrs) presenting with anything from common concerns (e.g. dealing with break-up, exam stress, bullying) to young people with emerging mental health difficulties such as mild depression and anxiety.  The outreach service will run one day a week (Monday) and is based in the Ballina Family Resource Centre. Festival of Lights.

Festival Brochures are now available in local outlets.  Thank you to everyone that has registered to enter for the Electric Light Parade, if you are still thinking about taking part please register before 6pm tomorrow evening (Tuesday) by calling 087 1871552.   There will be a fire and light performance by "Those Fire Guys" preceding this years Parade best viewing area will be between Hicksons and the Library.  If you would like the name(s) of any deceased family or friends to be remembered during the "Floating Candles Of Remembrance" please place their name(s) in the buckets provided in Londis, Centra, Gala and all Parish Churches.  All contributions donated will go towards Crossmolina Cemetery

 

St Patricks Day Parking

Please note there will be parking restrictions in Crossmolina from 4pm on St. Patrick's Day and it would be appreciated if no vehicles are parked along the parade route, from Mulherns Gala to the Garda station

 

Deel-Rovers GAA Club Activity’s 

Crossmolina low impact Active 55’s group runs every Tuesday 12pm to 1pm in Deel-Rovers GAA main hall, with a social cup of tea afterwards. Group activities include walking, light aerobic and muscle endurance exercises, weight bearing, balance, coordination, flexibility, toning, joint mobility, stretching, and relaxation/meditation, in a fun relaxed atmosphere. Safe Talk teaches participants to recognize and engage persons who might be having thoughts of suicide and to connect them with community resources trained in suicide intervention. Safe TALK stresses safety while challenging taboos that inhibit open talk about suicide. The Late Margaret McTague. 

The death occurred peacefully on Monday 25th February of Margaret McTague nee Beirne Lecarrow Crossmolina. Her remains reposed at Hiney’s Funeral home on Tuesday evening with removal to the Church of Our Lady of Mercy, Eskeragh.  Requiem Mass on Wednesday Burial afterwards in Drumlion Cemetery Carrick – on - Shannon. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Hughie is survived by her sons Martin and Seán, daughter Mary, son – in – law Evan, nephews, nieces, relatives, friends and neighbours. May she rest in peace.

Festival of Lights. 

Brochures for the Festival of Lights will be available in local outlets later this week and all details on the festival Facebook page also.  The Light Parade takes place at 7:30pm on March 17th with a special fire & light display preceding this year’s parade.  Thank you to all that have entered the parade, if you still want to enter please call 087 1871552 before March 10th.  There will be a new event this year, the "Floating Candles Of Remembrance" which will take place on Sat. March 16th after vigil mass, a procession of floating lights on the River Deel in remembrance of those that that have died from our community.  If you would like the name(s) of your dearly departed to be remembered during the ceremony, please put their name(s) into the boxes provided in Londis, Centra, Gala and all Parish Churches.  All donations included will be given to St. Tiernan's Cemetery. Boxes will be available from Thursday next.

 

Nephin Festival.

As plans progress for this Summer’s Nephin Festival the committee are looking for ideas for events that will cater for the senior members of the community as some of the regular events from past festivals will not be included this year.  There are forms available in the Post Office and we ask that people take a form, fill it out with ideas on events they would like included this year and return to the Post Office before March 25th.

Each participant will have a family tree of the information they have found by the end of the course. The Late Mickie Moyles

The Death occurred suddenly and peacefully on Monday 18th February at University Hospital Galway of Mickie Moyles Lecarrow Drive, Crossmolina,. His remains reposed at Hineys Funeral Home on Wednesday evening. Requiem Mass on Thursday in St Tiernans Church with burial afterwards in Crossmolina Cemetery. Mickie is survived by his wife Maureen sons P.J. Michael and Declan daughters Sharon and Mary, brothers Padraic and Sean, sisters Lily and Irene, brothers – in – law, sisters – in – law, daughters – in – law, son – in – law, grandchildren Shannon, Kadie, Jason, Saoirse, Muireann, Sean and Riona, Nephews, nieces, relations, friends and neighbours. Brave Kilmurry Under 12s Unlucky To Lose

The great football odyssey for Kilmurry Under 12 Boys came to an end at the last 16 stage of the SFAI Skechers National Cup. Despite being cheered on by the largest crowd ever at a Kilmurry Youths match the boys were unlucky to lose 1-0 to Aisling Annacotty from the Limerick District League.

The Annacotty team’s sharpness from playing regular League matches was evident early on. Kilmurry on the other hand hadn’t been in League action since last October. However Kilmurry almost scored after 5 minutes when Kobe McDonald broke away , his cross evaded the in running  Seán ÓG Mc Guinness but also evaded the Annacotty keeper , Anton Donohoe , and rolled just wide . Soon afterwards Annacotty struck for what turned out to be the only goal of the match. Tristan Connolly took advantage of a mix up in the Kilmurry defence to round keeper Oisín Langan and score. 

This setback stunned the Kilmurry team and their supporters but these players showed the great heart that has been a hallmark of their campaign. On three occasions before half time Kilmurry almost equalized. In quick succession Kilmurry hit the underside of the crossbar and had the ball cleared off the line by an Annacotty defender and then a close range header from Dylan Flynn hit the post.  The Annacotty keeper then did well to push the ball over from a Kobe Mc Donald free kick.

The second half was a hard fought affair with very few clear-cut chances for either team. A fine effort from Kobe Mc Donald which hit the side netting and a last minute header from Dylan Flynn were the closest Kilmurry came to equalizing. Keeper Oisín Langan Kevin Walsh. Josh Moyles and Mark Sheerin defended stoutly against the lively Annacotty forwards. Midfielders Oisín Deane, Seán Óg Mc Guinness. Luke Williams and Dylan Flynn worked tirelessly for their team while up front Kobe Mc Donald was a constant threat to the Annacotty defence. Substitutes Tony Carey and Luke Maloney tried their best to make the breakthrough for Kilmurry. Tom Gough, Joey Keane and Darragh Duffy were also members of this panel which reached a level never before achieved by a Kilmurry Boys’ team.

Well done to everyone involved in this great achievement particularly John Moyles and Paul Williams whose management and coaching of the team has been exemplary. Thanks to everyone who supported the team not just in Kilmurry but also at matches all over the country.

Marie O’Donnell RIP

The death occurred peacefully on Monday 18th February at her residence of Marie O’Donnell nee Jordan 36 Deerpark Crossmolina. Her remains reposed at Hiney’s Funeral Home on Tuesday evening. Requiem Mass on Wednesday in St Tiernans church with Burial afterwards in Crossmolina Cemetery. Marie is survived by her husband Michael (Mickey) daughter Sinead, brothers Thomas, P.J. , Michéal, Sheamus and David, Aunts  Kathleen Mangan USA, Bridie Ginty USA, Kathleen Gallagher Leeds, sisters – in – law, brothers – in – law, Nephews, Nieces, relations friends and Neighbours. May she rest in peace

 

North Mayo Winter League 

Crossmolina had a convincing win over Kilfine in the North Mayo Winter Junior Shield at Tiernans Park on Saturday week. After leading by 2 – 9 to 1 – 4 at the break with the goals coming from Niall Timoney and Conor Caden and a string of points from Shane McKinley Gerard Haran and John Garrett. Roy Carroll grabbed Kilfine’s goal and Brian Roche and Ciaran Boland rowed in with points. Further goals from Fiachra Walshe Patrick Loftus and Shane McKinley saw the home side run out winner 5 – 16 to 1 – 10

Lotto Results.

There was no winner of the Crossmolina Deel-Rovers GAA Club Lotto Jackpot on Saturday night 9th February. The numbers drawn were 1 – 12 – 19 – 27 no punter matched three numbers either and six tickets were drawn. Maureen Earley Kincon Ballina, Liam Garvey Glencreevy, Crossmolina, Evelyn and Vincent Crowley Moylaw, Crossmolina, Michéal and Phil Jordan Enniscoe Castlehill, John Valerio Lake Rd Crossmolina, Johnny and Claire Loftus Castlehill Ballina. Died in Dublin.

The Death occurred peacefully on Thursday 7th February at St Vincent’s Hospital Dublin of Philip McDonnell Balally Park Dundrun Dublin formerly of Ballyvichmaha Castlehill. Requiem Mass on Saturday in the Church of the Ascension of The Lord Balally Dundrum with removal afterwards to Kilmurry Cemetery for burial. Philip is survived by his brothers Martin and Pat, sister – in – law Evelyn, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbours and friends. May he rest in peace

Mindspace Outreach service in Ballina FRC

Mind space Mayo offers a support service to young people (15-25yrs) presenting with anything from common concerns (e.g. dealing with break-up, exam stress, bullying) to young people with emerging mental health difficulties such as mild depression and anxiety.  The outreach service will run one day a week (Monday) and is based in the Ballina Family Resource Centre. Exercise for Women.

Crossmolina Intermediate team have been drawn away to Bonniconlon in the first round of the Championship at Home to Ardnaree in round two and round three against Swinford at a neutral venue. In Junior B Championship Crossmolina are away to Breaffy B and at home to Moy Davitts with a bye in round three

Well done to the pupils and staff in Kilmurry NS, who raised a fantastic €610 in aid of Regina's Fight for Life, from our recent non uniform day.
