Laherdane retained the Padraic Garrett Memorial cup with a four points win over Crossmolina at Tiernans on Friday of last week two first half goals from Keith Loftus and Joseph Queenan saw the Laherdane men lead at half time 2 – 5 to 0 – 7 Crossmolina scores coming from Fionan Duffy six points and one from Dean Loftus. The Late Kathleen Brogan 

The death occurred peacefully on Monday 31st July of Kathleen Brogan St John’s Riverside Ballinamore Kiltmagh and formerly of Ballina Rd Crossmolina. Her remains reposed at St John’s Riverside Ballinamore on Wednesday evening with removal to St Tiernans Church Crossmolina requiem mass on Thursday with burial afterwards in Crossmolina Cemetery. Kathleen is survived by her sisters Patty Flaherty Erris rd Crossmolina, Margaret. Ann. McHale Killala, Attracta Herbert Hamshire England, Dympna Barr London, Barbra Kelly Ballycastle, Connie Curduff Australia, Sharon Bradley Moate Co Westmeath, Sinead Sweeney Ballina, brothers – in – law, sister – in – law Marie Brogan, aunts Patsy and Kathleen, nephews, nieces, relations, extended family, friends and neighbours. May she rest in peace

Died in Castlebar.

The death occurred suddenly and peacefully on Manday17th July of Daniel Gallagher, 116 Knockaphunta Park, Westport Road, Castlebar and formerly of Ballina and Crossmolina. His remains reposed at  Kilcoyne’s Funeral Home, Thomas Street, Castlebar on Wednesday evening Removal on Thursday morning  from 116 Knockaphunta Park to St. Tiernan’s Church, Crossmolina for Funeral Mass at 12 noon followed by burial in Addergoole Cemetery. Daniel is survived by his parents John and Ann Marie, brothers Eoin and John, sister, Rebecca, grandparents, relations, extended family, friends and neighbours. May he rest in peace 


U16 Championship.

Crossmolina got back to winning ways with a two points win over Islandeady in county U16 League at Tiernans Park on Tuesday last. With both defences on top scorers were hard to come by Thady Connor opened the scoring in the tenth minuet and Conor James Sloyan replied immediately  for his sides only score of the half minuets later Robert Murphy raised a green flag with further points from Edward Gough two and one from Adam Langan for a six points advantage ay the break. Two minuets into the second half David Ferdia Moran cracked home a goal  for Islandeady Edward Gough replied with a point before Caillin Joyce pointed a free Edward Gough and Cian Moylette exchanged point in the 42nd minuet Killian Fergus tacked on another. Three points from frees from Cillin Joyce reduced the lead to just the minimum John Tolan was called on to make a great one handed save and Joyce again had a 40m free to tie the score but the ball drifted wide and Captain Patrick McAndrew broke out of defence and kicked over a point for the Deel-Siders to leave the final score 1 – 8 to    1 - 6 Crossmolina now go forward to meet Bonniconlon tomorrow evening Tuesday

Its Festival Time

Finally festival week has arrived in Crossmolina, starting this Wednesday through until Sunday, five fun filled days for all the family. Full details of the events are on the festival website at If you are interested in any event where numbers are limited please register as soon as possible as some events are already booked up, also tickets are on sale locally for Sharon Shannon and Don Stiffe in concert on Thursday night. This year's festival has more children's events than last year, more diverse events to cover all age groups and a line up of entertainment that includes international artists and TV stars. U17 Boys Soccer Final 

Kilmurray did all the pressing and created a number of great goal scoring chances in this final of the U17 Boys final at Solar 21 Astro-Turf Pitch on Wednesday last. Mickie Murphy Conor Caden and Adam Langan all went close breaking the deal lock in the opening 45 minuets against Charlestown side that defended well. The winners came more into it after Mickie Murphy shot for Kilmurray came back off the underside of the crossbar and were rewarded when Jack Mahon Grabbed the all important goal after 70 minuets drilling a low past the Helpless Darragh Walsh from the edge of the box. Kilmurray were now defending as Charlestown who did not exert as much energy up to this point were full of running but for all the Chances Kilmurray created  they deserved at least  a draw

Died in Dublin

The death occurred peacefully on Tuesday 4th July at Mount Hybla Nursing Home of Brid Lang nee Harrison The Pines Castleknock and formerly of Regal Park and Crossmolina. Her remains reposed at the Kirwan Funeral Home, Fairview Strand, on Wednesday with removal to the Church of Our Lady Mother of the Church Requiem mass on Thursday followed by Cremation at Glasnevin Crematorium. Brid was predeceased by her Husband Sean and son Christopher, is survived by her sons Sean, Peadar and Brendan, daughters Mary, Brid and Catherine, sisters Ronnie Munnelly Knockadine Crossmolina and Bernie Gardiner Church St, Crossmolina, daughters – in – law, sons – in – law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, relations friends and neighbours. May she rest in peace

After their good win over Tourmakeady the previous week Crossmolina U16 boys came up against a very good Davitts team that inflicted their a third defeat this year on  the visitors to Ballindine on Tuesday last after fairly close opening quarter only a couple of points separated the sides when James Gill was fouled and from the resulting penalty Joe Prendergast made a wonderful save from Edward Gough Diarmuid Walsh kicked four points and Adam Langan goaled but with Stephen Niland Finatan  Kelly and Niall Tracey scoring at will Davitts were in a commanding lead at the break and went on to continue to dominate the final thirty minuets Edward Gough and Thady Connor scored points each and James Gill fisted a goal to leave the final score Davitts 4 – 16 Crossmolina 2 – 6.

Died in Castlebar 

The death occurred peacefully at Cuan Chaitriona Nursing Home on Saturday 2nd July of Mary Irwin nee Lavelle Springfield Castlebar and formerly of Letterbrick Boughadoon Keenagh. Her remains reposed at the Nursing home on Tuesday evening with removal to the Church of the Holy Rosary.Requiem mass on Wednesday with burial afterwards in Castlebar New Cemetery. Predeceased her husband John, sons John Francis and Gabriel and son-in-law Michael, deeply regretted by her loving family daughters Mary McDonnell, Teresa Brogan, son Michael, sisters Barbara (Waterford) and Liza (U.K.), daughters-in-law Helena and Carmel, son-in-law Willie, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relations, extended family, friends and neighbours. May she rest in peace.

The following are the dates for 2017 Cemetery masses Crossmolina is on Sunday 16th July at 6pm and Kilmurray on Saturday 29th July at 7pm (Vigil Mass) 


Engine and Tractor Club

Kilmurray Bonfire

The annual Bonfire Night Party held at Kilmurry Centre was very successful and was enjoyed by young and old .The Committee wish to thank all those who supported the event and everyone who volunteered their help in preparing for the Party and working on the night .A special word of thanks to the following who generously sponsored Raffle prizes ; O Donnell's Centra , Murphy's Bar, Cawleys of Rakestreet,  Hiney's Londis , Molloy's Chemist , Quinn's Chemist , Michael Cooney and Sons Hardware and Kilmurry Youths Soccer Club.

Congratulations  to Dr Michael Loftus Who was Honoured by Mayo County Board with naming of The formerly named Green Room under the stand in Elvery’s McHale  in his Honour and the unveiling of a mural prior to the Mayo V Derry  Championship Qualifier on Saturday week. 


Festival Updates:

Less than two weeks to this year's festival and the anticipation is growing. Due to demand there has been some additions to the events in the brochure, there is an extra Cupcake Workshop on Fri. July 21st at 5pm, an adult Sean Nos dancing workshop has been added on dance day, Wed. July 19th at 3pm. Some of the children's events are booking up fast namely the Magic Show and Puppet Show and the Ladies night in Enniscoe has limited numbers with some places remaining. Crossmolina 3 – 8 Knockmore 1 – 9 

Crossmolina grabbed two precious points in Division 1A of the County League at St Josephs Park Knockmore on Sunday last. Playing a more direct game taking the game to the hosts two points from Brian Benson in side three minuets was the perfect start Darren McHale quickly cancelled those our Kieran Langan and Darren McHale added points before Fionan Duffy had like scores for the visitors Peter Naughton pointed a free to give his side a one point advantage after 15 minuets Brian Benson waltzed past a couple of defenders to drill the ball past Aidan Kilcoyne in the seventh minuet after receiving the pass from Jordan Flynn Fionan Duffy added a point in the 25th minuet and just before the break  Martin McAndrew found Kevin Mulhern with a 40m pass which he fielded and stuck the ball  in the net to leave the half tine score 2 – 5 to 0 – 5 after playing with the aid of a stiff breeze Keith Ruttledge tacked on a point on the resumption and Peter Naughton pointed in  thirty fourth and fortieth minuet  which  Fionan Duffy replied with two points for The Dee-Siders Kieran Langan grabbed a life line for his side when drove the ball past a helpless Shane Keane  after a goal mouth scramble in the 47th minuet this goal was quickly cancelled out when Martin McAndrew found Derek Hegarty in side the defence exchanged passes with Dean Loftus before fisting to the net Fionan Duffy and Peter Naughton exchanged point before the final whistle
