There was no winner of the Crossmolina Deel-Rovers GAA Club Lotto Jackpot on Saturday night 30th March. The numbers drawn were 5 – 6 – 26 – 32. Minor League. 

Crossmolina 2- 13 Naomh Padraig 1 – 12 

Crossmolina emerged four points winner in this county Minor League tie at Tiernans Park after a titanic struggle. In a game where their was only a score separating the sides until Conor Caden grabbed a goal in the 20th minuet and repeated the dose eight minuets later when he converted a penalty after Niall Coggins was upended in the square to leave the half time score 2-6 to 0-6. The visitors kept the score board ticking over with four points from Kieran Cooney and one each from Padraig Breslin and Luke O’Shea in between Conor Caden and Edward Gough replied points each to leave just two points separating the sides in the 51st minuet up popped Padraig Breslin with a stunning goal to give his side a one point advantage. It was then the Deel-Siders really came to life kicking five points two long range frees from Edward Gough and one from open play  and points each from Diarmuid Walsh Conor Caden sealed a hard earned two league points

Kiltane scored a deserved six points win over Crossmolina in Bangor in the first round of the county Division 2 league. After a closely contested first half possession wise Crossmolina trailed by three points 0-6 to 0-3 having missed some great scoring chances and were to pay dearly after the break in the eight minuet Mickie Sweeney grabbed a goal and minuets later Adam Carabine netted from the penalty spot their after that visitors were playing catch up and Kiltane ran out comfortable winners

Passion in Drama.

(Stations of the Cross) Good Friday 8pm Crossmolina Town Centre.  The scene will be set to depict the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus often came to pray. The crowd will gather along the banks of the River Deel in Crossmolina town where Jesus will meet his Disciples.  He will receive his Cross from Pilot and carry that Cross through the town of Crossmolina reflecting on the 14 Stations of the Cross to St Tiernan’s Church.  The Passion will be presented by our local drama and pantomime groups.  Come and join us for an evening of reflection and prayer with our community on the way of the cross

 

Ballina FRC Parent & Toddler Group.

The Parent & Toddler group takes place every Thursday from 10.00am to 12.00 noon in the centre.  This group is open to all parents, Grandparents and childminders to come along with their child/children and meet new people over a cuppa and a chat.  Various activities take place and new members are always welcome. Congratulation to Kilmurry Community Games participants who did their community proud in Handwriting and Art County Finals in Castlebar. In the Handwriting U10 Boys Jack. Crossmolina Tigers Basketball team scored a 46 to 32 win over Charlestown in the County U16 Final in Tourmakeady on Sunday week. Caoimhe Walsh was awarded the MVP of the match with 24 points scored. Well done to all involved and congratulation on your success

Cash for Clobber at Ballina Family Resource Centre.

If you are clearing out your home please drop the clothes, shoes, bags etc into the Ballina Family Resource Centre, Abbey Street, Ardnaree. We are doing a Cash for Clobber as a Fundraiser for the Centre, your support would be greatly appreciated.  If you need bags we have some in the centre, just drop in and collect them. Thank You from St Tiernan’s Cemetery Committee

St Tiernan’s Cemetery Committee wish to sincerely thank the Festival of Lights for organising the Candles of Remembrance and for kindly donating the proceeds to the upkeep of the cemetery. It was much appreciated and will be used to improve and enhance the cemetery grounds. We would also like to thank Jarlath Tolan for the use of his property to temporarily display the new lay-out boards for the cemetery.

Crossmolina Minor team had with stand a storming finish against Park/Keelogues/Crimlin in this County League Division 3B third round in Park on Sunday week. The home side lead at the break 0-8 to 1-2 with Diarmuid Walsh getting the goal. It was tit for tat throughout the final thirty minuets with Adam Langan getting the decisive goal with five minuets left on the clock. The hosts piled on the attack and went within the inches of scoring a goal late on to leave the final score 2-8 to 0-10 in favour of the Deel-Siders.

Minister Michael Ring TD, Minister for Rural and Community Development will officially open the Civic Centre on Mullenmore Street on 29th March 2019 at 4.pm All members of the community are welcome to attend.

Confirmation 2019

Twenty Three pupils from Crossmolina National School were confirmed last Saturday in St Tiernan’s and Twenty Seven more will be confirmed on Saturday next in Keenagh Church. We congratulate all of them, their Teachers and Parents for all the preparations.

 

Recent Deaths.

Sympathy is extended to the McHale family on the Death of Vincent in New Jersey formally of Kildaree, and the Flanagan Family London on the death of Frank brother of Paddy Moate Castlehill. May they rest in peace

 

New Eucharistic Ministers

Twelve new Ministers of the Eucharist were inducted by Bishop John Fleming at the Confirmation Ceremonies last week. We are delighted that young people have offered to be part of this very important ministry in the Parish.

 

St Padre PIO Novena.

The St Pio Novena starts this evening Monday 25th in St Tiernan’s Church Crossmolina. It’s on every evening at 8pm for nine days. Special Candles can be lit in front of the Statue for your intentions. Some evenings the Rosary will be offered at 7.30pm, & Exposition will also be offered on some evenings before Mass. A Petition Box is also available for your intentions.

A Full statement of Accounts for 2018 were presented to the Parish Finance Council on Tuesday evening last. Full details will be displayed on all Church Notice Boards.

 SUICIDE ALERTNESS FOR EVERYONE  -  TELL, ASK, LISTEN, KEEP SAFE: Crossmolina Deelrovers GAA in partnership with the HSE is hosting Safe TALK training on Wed 3rd April (6:30-10pm), Crossmolina Deelrovers GAA Clubrooms). Safe TALK teaches participants to recognize and engage persons who might be having thoughts of suicide and to connect them with community resources trained in suicide intervention. SafeTALK stresses safety while challenging taboos that inhibit open talk about suicide. Takes place on tonight Monday 25th March at 8pm in the Men Shed, The Boreen. All welcome especially new members.

 

Connacht Close Badminton Championships.

Heartiest congratulations to all our juniors who competed in the U13 and U17 Connacht championships and we are delighted to say we had a very entertaining day at this keenly contested event.    In the U17 event Boys “Plate” singles winner was Jimmy McAndrew and Girls “Plate” singles winner was Grace Loftus. Emily Loftus and partner Lucy were Girls doubles r-up in the U17.  In the U13s Tournament Girls “Plate” singles winner was Kayleigh Coggins while Emily Loftus was r-up in the top Girls “singles” event.  

Girls “Plate” doubles winners were Roisin Tolan and Emily Loftus, and Emily and partner were mixed doubles runners up.  Our Crossmolina Juniors did us proud at this day long event and we would also like to congratulate Ballina for their dedication and organisation of this annual event.  Next date is the Ballina Singles event on the 23rd March so take note. Everyone please give your entries to us ASAP. Also Ballina Badminton Club are hosting their social Sunday on the 31st March at 4pm for all our adult members. So lots more badminton to look forward to ye

 

The Late John Canavan

The death occurred peacefully on Wednesday 20th March at Mayo University Hospital Castlebar of John Canavan Erris St Crossmolina. His remains reposed at Hiney’s Funeral Home on Saturday evening with removal to St Tiernans Church. Requiem mass on Sunday with burial afterwards in Crossmolina Cemetery. John is survived by his wife Ann, Family Michael Crossmolina, Sharon Langan Garracloon, Shane Foxford, Lorraine Connolly Cavan, Marguerite McGinnis, Rakestreet, Kevin Rathoath, and Sandra Knockmore,  brothers Sylvie and Patrick, sisters Maureen, Breda and Geraldine, brothers – in – law, sisters – in- law, daughters – in – law, sons – in – law, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and Neighbours. May he rest in peace 

 

Mindspace Outreach service in Ballina FRC

Mindspace Mayo offers a support service to young people (15-25yrs) presenting with anything from common concerns (e.g. dealing with break-up, exam stress, bullying) to young people with emerging mental health difficulties such as mild depression and anxiety.  The outreach service will run one day a week (Monday) and is based in the Ballina Family Resource Centre. Crossmolina Festival would like to thank all those that contributed in any way to making the Festival Of Lights a success this year.  The "Floating Candles of Remembrance" contributions totalled €887.21 which the festival will donate to the Cemetery Committee to continue the great work they do.  Thank you to everyone that took the time and effort to join in the parade and create the light display in the town, the senior winners in the parade was Davys Tool Hire and the junior winners Crossmolina Foroige, also to those businesses that added to the atmosphere in the town with their window displays, winner of the best window display went to Maughan's Bar and to the Men’s Shed who organised the shamrocks around the town and also to our local Gardai, all of the stewards and to everyone that turned out to enjoy the parade, we hope you enjoyed it.  The next festival meeting takes place on tomorrow evening (Tuesday) at 8pm in the Enterprise Centre, all welcome as plans for the Nephin festival begin.

The annual Bord na nÓg Awards evening will take place on this night Wednesday the 20th March 2019 at 7.30pm in the Crossmolina Deel-Rovers Sports Hall. Special guest on the night is our own Conor Loftus. Please support this annual event.

 

Lotto Results.

There was no winner of the Crossmolina Deel-Rovers GAA Club Lotto Jackpot on Saturday night 9th March. The numbers drawn were 8 – 9 – 19 – 29 Ian Kelly Cloonawilliam Crossmolina matched three numbers and won €150. The Draw took place in the Thatch Bar. This weeks Jackpot is €4,050. Senior Alert Scheme – Panic Button

Are you in fear of falling, being attacked or broken into in your own home, have a health condition that concerns you? Are you age 65 or older and living alone, living with another person who meets the eligibility criteria, living alone for significant periods of time during the day, or is a carer to someone else in their household, If so you could be entitled to a free Personal Alarm Panic Button.  (Monitoring fees are free for 1st year). The Late Mary Hegarty 

The death occurred peacefully on Monday 11th March of Mary Hegarty nee Gallagher Convent Rd Crossmolina. Her remains reposed at her residence on Wednesday evening. Requiem Mass on Thursday in St Tiernans Church with burial afterwards in Kilmurry Cemetery. Mary is survived by her husband Jack her family Mary Cosgrove Ardagh, Chris Hegarty Crossmolina, William Crossmolina, Eileen Hegarty Ballyvary, Patricia Donnellan Crossmolina, sisters Kathleen Heaney Chicago, Biney Barry, Luton, daughter - in – law Grace, sons – in – law Michael Cosgrove, Brian Kenny, Brendan Gillespie, Anthony Donnellan, brothers – in – law, sisters – in – law, grandchildren Michael and Oisin Cosgrove, Alex and Sarah Kenny, Jack, Ciara and Tara Hegarty,  Ailish, Faye and Evan Gillespie, Rian, Fionn and Aaron Donnellan, Great-granddaughter Saoirse, Nephews, nieces, neighbours, relations and friends. May she rest in peace.

Mindspace Outreach service in Ballina FRC

Mindspace Mayo offers a support service to young people (15-25yrs) presenting with anything from common concerns (e.g. dealing with break-up, exam stress, bullying) to young people with emerging mental health difficulties such as mild depression and anxiety.  The outreach service will run one day a week (Monday) and is based in the Ballina Family Resource Centre. Festival of Lights.

Festival Brochures are now available in local outlets.  Thank you to everyone that has registered to enter for the Electric Light Parade, if you are still thinking about taking part please register before 6pm tomorrow evening (Tuesday) by calling 087 1871552.   There will be a fire and light performance by "Those Fire Guys" preceding this years Parade best viewing area will be between Hicksons and the Library.  If you would like the name(s) of any deceased family or friends to be remembered during the "Floating Candles Of Remembrance" please place their name(s) in the buckets provided in Londis, Centra, Gala and all Parish Churches.  All contributions donated will go towards Crossmolina Cemetery

 

St Patricks Day Parking

Please note there will be parking restrictions in Crossmolina from 4pm on St. Patrick's Day and it would be appreciated if no vehicles are parked along the parade route, from Mulherns Gala to the Garda station

 

Deel-Rovers GAA Club Activity’s 

Crossmolina low impact Active 55’s group runs every Tuesday 12pm to 1pm in Deel-Rovers GAA main hall, with a social cup of tea afterwards. Group activities include walking, light aerobic and muscle endurance exercises, weight bearing, balance, coordination, flexibility, toning, joint mobility, stretching, and relaxation/meditation, in a fun relaxed atmosphere. Crossmolina Deelrovers GAA in partnership with the HSE is hosting Safe TALK training on Wednesday 3rd April (6:30pm - 10pm - Crossmolina Deelrovers GAA Clubrooms)

Safe Talk teaches participants to recognize and engage persons who might be having thoughts of suicide and to connect them with community resources trained in suicide intervention. Safe TALK stresses safety while challenging taboos that inhibit open talk about suicide.
