Kilmurry Youths have Double Success.
Kilmurry Under 16 Boys team recently completed the double by winning the Mayo Cup having already captured the Premier League title. This is the first time a Kilmurry Boys team have won both of these competitions in the same season.
The Cup final, played in Milebush Solar 21 Park, was a nail biting match against a very good Conn Rangers team. Having started very well, Conn Rangers took a deserved lead midway through the first half. Kilmurry began to win more possession and Eoin Murphy drew a fine save from the Conn Rangers keeper just before half time. Kilmurry enjoyed long periods of possession in the second half but found it difficult to break down a resolute Conn Rangers defence. With 15 minutes left Conal Carolan, the Kilmurry captain, swung in a fine free kick and under pressure from the Kilmurry attack the ball deflected off a Conn Rangers defender into the net.
Try as they might neither team could break the stalemate in normal or extra time so the match was decided in a penalty shoot out. Kian Walsh, the Kilmurry keeper, made two great penalty saves and Darragh Syron scored the winning penalty following successful penalties from Conal Carolan, Eoin Murphy and James Williams. Former President of the FAI Pat Quigley presented the Cup to Conal Carolan , the Man of the Match award to Kian Walsh and winners medals to Barry Gaughan Jonathan Murtagh Cathal Finnerty Diarmuid Coggins Micheál Gill James Williams Niall Coggins Kyran Jordan Eoin Murphy Niall Maughan Darragh Syron Eamon Gill Conor Howley Callum McDonnell Brian McKinley and Bryan Dyra .
