Celebrating Christmas 2020

We must remind ourselves that the obligation to attend Mass on Sunday’s and Holy Days remains suspended during the pandemic. In particular, the vulnerable should be encouraged to stay at home and participate in Mass via webcam.

Christmas is about more than just one day.  Families are welcome to attend Mass at some point during the twelve days from Christmas Eve to Epiphany. Christmas Masses will also be widely available over webcam and we strongly encourage families to “tune in” from their homes with a lighted candle. If you decide to come to Mass at Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, please note:

1. Attendance at Mass for Christmas will be on a first come basis.  Follow the guidelines from the Stewards. Once we have reached capacity, people will be asked to sit in their cars.

2. People will not be allowed stand in porch or by the walls.

3. Families or 3 people to every second seat.

4. Please sit & stand, do not use kneelers.

5. You are not allowed to gather in groups after Mass

6. Communion distributed at the end on Mass.,

8. Help needed after all Masses in Sanitising seats.

We decided ‘right or wrong’ not to go with tickets, perhaps this way we avoid disappointing many regular and faithful parishioners.

The stewards who help us so generously did not make the rules so please be patient, kind and understanding.

Looking forward to seeing you.

Our sincere Thanks

The year 2020 will be a year we will all want to forget. This pandemic has presented us all with many challenges. The familiar pattern of community and family support has been affected. Limitations have been imposed on us and our entire way of life has been turned upside down. What kind of Christmas will 2020 be? It will be different but that doesn’t mean it’s not going to be special. Many people have decided not to focus on presents and the lavishness that Christmas brings but to celebrate it in the true spirit of the Christ Child. In some ways the Covid-19 restrictions can open up greater opportunities for prayer and for reflection, for family time and space to enter into the true meaning of Christmas. This Christmas it is not possible to thank people individually. So many volunteers became involved in planning, preparing, cleaning and sanitising our churches so that they would be safe secure places for public worship. So many has helped in all areas of parish life & community. We thank you all sincerely. The Irish Bishops said recently “It is a clear illustration that  religious faith is not just about believing but also about belonging in a local community, that significant network of relationships which indicates that people are there for each other.

We wish you every blessing for your health and happiness, stay safe and look after one another. Have a very happy Christmas.  Fr Francis & Fr Gabriel.
